about our
c o f f e e

at cafe kino, we pride ourselves on serving truly great tasting, ethically produced quality coffee. all of our coffee is certified organic and fairtrade. it is freshly ground for you in the cafe and has been blended and roasted in bristol by brian wogan who are members of the fairtrade foundation. here is what they have to say....

grown on the rich, fertile volcanic soils of the country where the diverse topography gives way to the micro climates which help to delicately alter the flavours of the coffees grown on the many individual fincas (coffee farms) to give the soft, nutty flavours characteristic of fine costa rican coffees. the coffee is washed and sundried on patios and kept in 'pergamino' until just prior to shipment to keep the colours and flavours at their pinnacle.

the coffee growers co-operative consortium has many different projects orientated to bring better life conditions to small farmers (1.3 hectare coffee plantation each) and benefits 2996 growers and their families directly and about 15,500 people indirectly. the aims in europe and the united states are to bring the small farmer the right price that will lead him to improve his standard of living and to contribute with the reforestation and the conservation of the costa rican rain forest and contribute to improve the quality of life for the small producers. the co-operative organises improved credit terms for the farmers. other programs include scholarship funds for education, forest management and river basin protection.
